Today in The Journal News

The Yankees picked up their six straight win last night, getting five RBI from Francisco Cervelli and three home runs from Mark Teixeira. Filling in for one of several injured Yankees, the backup Cervelli has been outstanding with nine hits in his past four starts behind the plate.

As Sam wrote, though, much of the win centered on Teixeira’s on-going return to form after a rough first month.

Much of the past week has centered on the Yankees sudden string of injuries, including Nick Johnson who was put on the disabled list yesterday. The notebook also has items on Jorge Posada, Kevin Russo, Phil Hughes and Alfredo Aceves.

For the Sunday baseball page, I wrote that Brian Cashman’s December trades are so far working out to a definite disadvantage for the Yankees.
